What Is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® treatment consists of sets of clear aligners that you change out over time. These clear aligners are made uniquely for you to discreetly straighten and align your teeth over a reasonable period of time. The most desirable trait of Invisalign® is that there are no wires, no metal, and no brackets, unlike traditional braces.

Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign® (FAQ)

How Does Invisalign® Work?

Invisalign® moves your teeth over time by utilizing clear plastic aligners that are custom-made for your teeth using advanced technology.

Every new aligner set is shaped just a little bit differently in order to allow for the progression of movement. You will wear each aligner for about two weeks before swapping it out for a new set.

Depending on the patients’ unique case, occasionally, tooth-colored buttons are placed on the teeth to assist in the systematic movement.

Why Choose Invisalign®?

The most popular trait of Invisalign® is that of its discreteness. The treatment is also often shorter and more “flexible” than with traditional braces. Some of the benefits of Invisalign® include:

  • Clear and discrete aligners that are unnoticeable
  • Removable aligners won’t affect your diet, unlike traditional braces
  • Easier oral health maintenance since the aligners are removed for brushing and flossing
  • Invisalign® is said to be comfortable than traditional braces
  • The aligners are made custom for your unique case, this allows for precision and effectiveness

Who Is Invisalign® For?

Invisalign® typically is best for adults and teens that have minor to medium misalignment of their smile. While the trays are removable, Invisalign® is best suited for those who are old enough to understand the vitalness of constant wear and able to keep track of their aligners.

While occasionally, in more severe cases of teeth misalignment, traditional braces are necessary, in most cases, Invisalign® can straighten one’s smile. Dr. Brandon Grantham will address all of your concerns and take a look at your bite to give you an individualized recommendation when you come in for your consultation.

How Long Is An Invisalign® Treatment?

While traditional braces can take up to two years to straighten your smile, in most cases, the advanced technology behind Invisalign® allows for that treatment to be cut nearly in half.

Treatment for Invisalign® in Copperas Cove typically takes between nine and fifteen months. Most cases with our dentist in Copperas Cove take around one year to complete. Keep in mind that this is unique to each case. With Invisalign® treatment, you can expect to wear between 18 and 30 progressive aligners.

The Invisalign® Treatment Process

First, the Consultation

You will first need a consultation so that we can determine if you are a candidate for Invisalign®. Once that is determined, we will complete a series of scans and imagine. These scans are sent off to the Invisalign® labs, where they will custom make your sets of aligners.

Our Copperas Cove dentist, Dr. Grantham, will work with the Invisalign® specialists to determine a treatment plan just for you. This process may take up to a week, and it is possible that you will need to return for another consultation.

Next, we will go over your dental insurance benefits and help you make any financial arrangements. Once your aligners have arrived at our office, we will be in touch as they’ll be ready for you to stop by and pick them up!

When Your First Set of Aligners Is Ready For Pick Up

When you come to pick up your new Inivisalign® trays, we will first have to prep your teeth. In certain cases, tooth-colored buttons need to be bonded to a few teeth to help the trays do their job. This process is gentle and pain-free.

In some cases, we may also have to complete interproximal reduction. This treatment’s purpose is to space out overcrowded teeth to allow them to move easier.

Next, you will try on your first set of trays so that Dr. Grantham can ensure they fit properly and that you can remove and place them yourself easily. He will also go over the care instructions of your new clear aligners.

Once You Receive Your First Set Of Aligners

Each set is typically worn for an average of two weeks. Proceeding these couple of weeks, you will move on to your next set. You will need to come back into our Copperas Cove dental office about every six weeks so that we can track your progress and give you your next set of aligners.

It is vital that you wear your aligners for around 22 to 23 hours a day. They may only be removed for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. Not wearing your aligners as much as possible can result in hampered progress and a longer treatment time.

With each set of aligners, your teeth will be gradually moving into their desired place.

After You Complete Your Invisalign® Aligners

After you have completed your Invisalign® treatment successfully, we will ensure that your teeth are correctly aligned and remove any added buttons from the teeth. Next, we will fit you for your retainer. Please note it is just as vital that you are wearing your retainer as prescribed in order to ensure that your new smile lasts.

What To Expect On A Day-To-Day Basis

To emphasize again, you will be wearing your retainers for around 22 to 23 hours a day, as much as possible. Aligners are only removed for drinking, eating, brushing, and flossing.

Teenagers, on occasion, need to be reminded that the only way Invisalign® will work is if they’re wearing their aligners for the designated amount of time. With the advanced technology behind the Invisalign® Teen, aligners are created with a blue compliance indicator. This makes it easy to ensure that teens are wearing their aligners enough.
